The reason is that all white gold is plated with rhodium so there is no difference in appearance between 14k or 18k gold; And given the fact that 14 gold is more durable and cheaper this is the natural choice. For red gold there are castings in 14k gold alloy only. For yellow gold there is an aesthetic consideration because alloys 14k and 18k are not identical in appearance and the 18k gold color is deeper.
