5 Biggest Mistakes to Avoid When Buying Sapphire Engagement Rings…
Diamond grading refers to the process of evaluating a diamond by a set of rules to determine its quality and by that its price.
When a diamond is being graded by a professional high quality lab it goes through many tests – some are very trivial like weight and fluorescence and some requires more skill like determining a diamond’s color or clarity.

Many people seem to think that diamond grading is equivalent to the well-known 4 c’s. Those 4 letters that represents – Carat, Color, Clarity and Cut, are very important but the grading process of a diamond is more detailed than that.
For example, with the ever changing ways of technology and the fact that some people in this world prefer cheating and stealing to working hard – the serious labs run many tests to insure that a diamond is natural or not treated.
Another well-known thing that they check is fluorescence levels. You can read more about this specific phenomena and all other major grades in the 4c’s section.
If we can install one principle in the public is that before you start thinking about the diamonds different grades – its color, its clarity and so on, thin about who is grading the stone!!
The amount of worthless certification in the diamond global industry is unbelievable. The issue is that there is no patent on grading some of the diamonds qualities like color. Moreover, any certified gemologist (not a hard thing to obtain) can open a lab and start using the well-known color scale in a whole different way. This way labs grade, for example, K color diamonds as F and it is not criminal.
This is only a small example; we have seen many cases of 3 clarity grades upgrade, of good cut diamonds with excellent marks and so on. Be careful with the lab and the sellers.
The most revered lab in the world is GIA; they lead the diamond grading world and are considered to be the strictest gemological lab. After it you have other decent options – ones that are being traded between diamond wholesalers like IGI and HRD.
Notice that many of the labs that over grade diamonds use similar names to the high quality labs.
